Lufthansa Exhibition at the THF TOWER

The exhibition "Lufthansa. Berlin Tempelhof 1926–1945. Between Civilian and Military Aviation" at THF TOWER explores the history of Lufthansa at its former home airport from 1926 to 1945, taking a critical look at the company’s early years. It focuses on the complex interconnections between aviation, the state, industry, and the military – from the fascination of aviation and the development of a clandestine air force to Lufthansa’s role in armaments production, including the use of forced labor at Tempelhof Airport.

The exhibition is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11am to 6pm.

The exhibition is complemented by a diverse program of accompanying events and educational activities, including workshops for school classes and families. For younger visitors, an activity booklet is available, guiding them through the exhibition in an engaging, interactive way.

About the THF TOWER: A memorial above the rooftops of Berlin

The THF Tower is one of the first parts of the building at Tempelhof Airport to be renovated to make it barrier-free and offers our guests an unforgettable visit experience. On the wood-panelled roof terrace you can enjoy the view over the city and the fields and be a little closer to the Berlin sky. The historic and statically renewed staircase, which seems to float on the historic building, leads you to the exhibition area on the 6th floor.

The staircase of the THF TOWER is an architectural statement: originally only partially constructed, it was fitted with an impressive suspended steel staircase during the renovation. The steel staircase was suspended from the roof structure of the main staircase. Fourteen sturdy tie rods are anchored in a solid steel frame for this purpose.

View over Berlin: The roof terrace of the THF TOWER

Once at the top, visitors are rewarded with a magnificent view over the city, allowing them to enjoy their own piece of Berlin sky. The view over Tempelhofer Feld and the vast cityscape makes the roof terrace an impressive vantage point in Berlin.

The eponymous former glass air traffic control tower rises above the building and shapes its unmistakable silhouette. Even from a distance, the THF TOWER is visible as a special monument – a modern vantage point with historical character.
