About us
The future of Tempelhof Airport
The former Tempelhof Airport is being developed into a forward-looking, public-interest venue for exchange and encounters for Berlin, Germany, and the world. The aim is to preserve the historic building complex, carefully develop it further, and revitalize it with a variety of uses.
Responsible for this task is Tempelhof Projekt GmbH, a state-owned company founded in 2011. On behalf of the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development, Construction, and Housing, it coordinates the renovation, planning, preservation, and ongoing operation of the site in accordance with monument preservation guidelines with a staff of around 90 employees. The basis for this is a management contract with the state of Berlin, which has currently been extended until 2027.
The state of Berlin owns the site and, after the airport closed in 2008, decided to open up the historic buildings and the extensive surrounding area for new and diverse uses.
Today, Tempelhof Airport is a place in transition – not a completed project, but a living space that is constantly evolving. With great commitment, the team at Tempelhof Projekt GmbH works every day to preserve this special place for future generations and to develop it further – despite all the challenges.
