RENOVATION AND REINFORCEMENT OF THE STEEL STRUCTURE

The steel structure of the pier and hangars form the 1.2-kilometer-long semicircle of the airport between the west and east terminal buildings, to which component B with the main hall is connected in the center. The structure is an engineering masterpiece of its time and a special feature of the building ensemble. Its high historical value is beyond question.

The main structure, whose steel frame construction consists of 15-meter-high main supports, the rear supports located in front of the window facade, and the 40-meter cantilevered truss, spans a wide open space that allows for a variety of uses. In order to keep it fit for purpose in the future, the steel structure needs to be comprehensively renovated and upgraded, which is essential in the relevant areas.
