Building Section Development at Tempelhof Airport
Another major step in the development of the property will follow in 2026, when the newly formed three-person Building Section Development Team begins work at Tempelhof Projekt GmbH (THP). The new team will focus on developing the individual building sections on the basis of the existing building fabric. In doing so, the team will draw on the guidelines developed in the overarching concepts, test them against the building itself, and refine them further.
The Responsibilities of Building Section Development at Tempelhof Airport
In general, the goal is to develop heritage-sensitive, resource-efficient, and cost-conscious solutions that harness the potential inherent in the existing building fabric, while also identifying its limitations and translating them into an appropriate planning concept. The initial goal is to produce sound feasibility studies that can serve as a basis for decisions on further planning, with confirmed planning objectives and a defined cost framework.
For the first time, the architects on the team are taking on the role of lead designers in addition to representing the client. With support from specialist consultants, they will drive the planning process forward and produce the plans themselves. In addition to carrying out specific planning assignments and securing suitable partners, the team is therefore focusing intensively on establishing internal processes.
