WILHELM BUSCH IN THE SHELTER

Extensive air-raid shelters are located under almost all of the airport's administrative buildings, including Hangar 2. They served as protection against aerial attacks for the employees and later also for the residents from the vicinity. Although the rooms were only partially completed at the beginning of the war, they were provisionally put into operation. The rooms in Building C1 were even gas-proof and had two gas locks and an air filtration system. On many walls you can see well preserved and interesting drawings, which take up different motifs of Wilhelm Busch and were meant to cheer up the inmates.
