OFFICE SPACE RENOVATION – THE FIRST MAJOR PROJECT

Since completion of the building, almost all office spaces have been in continuous use. Hardly any space at the Tempelhof airport currently has a permanent building and operating permit.

To keep the many tenants in the building and to make space available for other uses, the "Office Space Renovation" project was set up with a total area of more than 110,000 m².

The project is complex because, due to the lack of available external space, alternative areas (hubs) must first be created within the airport. The leesees will be able to move into these successively during the realization of the individual subprojects until they can move back into their spaces after the renovation.

All subprojects are interdependent: the technical infrastructure as a basis, the renovation of the supporting structure and facades, the necessary removal of pollutants, the structural strengthening of the walls, floors and ceilings, and finally the interior fittings and the installation of modern technical equipment. All of this is being carried out in coordination with and in compliance with the requirements of historic preservation and in parallel with continued event operations.
Usable hub areas as temporary alternative spaces at the site must first be created by refurbishing vacant buildings that are currently unusable. In a first step, these " hub buildings" will therefore be planned and refurbished as alternative areas with no effect on use.

In a second step, the existing and future Police areas will be planned in a user-specific manner in a multi-project organization and, with the availability of the hubs, redeveloped over a period of approximately ten years.
