THF public participation compass

If you are already in the forest and have walked in circles several times trying to reach the edge of the forest, it is too late to buy a compass. You are lucky if you already have your compass with you. In a figurative sense, this also applies to the topic of public participation. A good deal has already been done at THF in the past – not always, but sometimes in circles. The public participation process is currently on hold. This is exactly the right moment to use a compass to create a good tool for the next steps.

What is the public participation Compass? An orientation tool

The public participation Compass is a guide and shows what future participation at the site could look like. It is an orientation aid for decision-makers. The public participation Compass distinguishes between public participation fields and formats and names important target groups. It provides a structure and strategy and makes it clear that public participation must go hand in hand with building development. All content-related topics that the working committee has formulated in the recommendations are integrated in each of the three public participation fields (vision, cooperative development, building knowledge & communication).

What is the public participation compass NOT? A participation process

The public participation compass is not a roadmap, it is a tool for a possible participation process. The public participation is still on hold. In order to revive public participation, it is necessary to create further, still open preconditions. This includes a clear mandate, definition of an object of public participation, and provision of the necessary resources.
