Revitalizing actions and continuation of initiated cooperations

In order to maintain the dialogue with the general public, a number of events have been designed and some of them have already been held in the Summer of 2019. For example, the Torhaus Festival, which invited visitors to a variety of activities, workshops and events in June, or the Tempelhofer Wald (Tempelhof Forest) art project.

Tempelhofer Wald (Tempelhof Forest)

A colloquium with tours and discourse – Excursions into the belly of the airport – A shared meal – The forest on the roof

On August 23, 2019, the Tempelhofer Wald art project started in and on the building of the Berlin Tempelhof airport. Between art and public participation, MicaMoca e. V. ventures the utopia of the Tempelhofer Wald (Tempelhof Forest) with the public participation of numerous artists*, urbanists* and activists*. Detailed information about the project can be found at: Tempelhofer Wald (Tempelhof Forest).

TORHAUS

Public participation Showcase

After more than 10 years of vacancy, the Torhaus (old gatehouse) on Columbiadamm has been given a new use as a "Puplic participation showcase". At the end of August 2018, Tempelhof Projekt GmbH and the initiative "thf.vision" signed the usage agreement. 50% of the use is planned by other groups (initiatives, citizenship and neighborhood).

Since there was no building permit for the Torhaus, a Tiny House "New Work Studio" (architect: Van Bo Le-Menzel) was set up as a mobile construction office for the period during which the Torhaus was made usable.

In March 2019, the initiative received a commitment from the lower monument protection authority as well as the highest building supervision for use. Subsequently, meetings and small actions of the initiative thf.vision took place in the Torhaus.

According to the initiators, the Torhaus should become a self-organized space for the general public. Initially, the initiative thf.vision was responsible for the organization and use. Later, the Torhaus Berlin e. V. was founded. In June 2021, the association received a new usage contract with the option of 10 years of rent-free use. In return, the association undertook to carry out the energy-efficient renovation of the building on its own responsibility and to obtain the necessary permits. An application for funding under the BENE program was successfully submitted for this purpose.

The Torhaus is to become an open place for everyone who wants to get involved. Here, all good ideas for the future of the airport building can be discussed and deposited.

Torhaus Festival from June 1 to 23, 2019.

The Torhaus Festival was a pilot project by two members of the working committee (representatives of thf.vision and Mehrwertvoll e.V.). The core of the concept was inviting and invigorating actions around the airport building, which should support and complement the public participation process. Individuals, organizations and initiatives had a variety of opportunities to inform themselves about the development process and to get involved.
